Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC)
EMC is an area that can become a large financial burden to many projects with even the most simple circuitry being able to create either Conducted or Radiated noise. Although ultimately the cure may be very low cost, arriving at the solution can be extremely expensive, particularly if customers have to hire a Pre-Compliance Test House by the day or half day.
The main problem encountered is usually the lack of knowledge or experience in solving the problem ‘at source’ with a cost effective fix. Many hours or days can be spent blindly trying to cure the problem using inappropriately large or expensive filters, when what is actually required is the understanding of how noise manifests itself.
At Anglia Designs, with our extensive experience of SMPS - one of the worst culprits in generating noise, and access to an immense portfolio of suppression components, we are well placed to offer customers hands-on advice to deliver the most elegant, simplest, and cost effective solutions.
Our screened room enables us to perform accurate mains borne Conducted emissions measurements using our state-of-the-art PMM9010 Digital Receiver. This clean environment also allows repeatable tests without the uncertainty of external sources of interference. Furthermore, single-phase equipment up to 16 Amps input current can be catered for.
A TEM cell, designed for measuring Radiated emissions, will be installed shortly whilst further equipment such as ESD and Spike & Surge Testing capability will be added in line with customer demand.
